New year, new you? These four little words make it sound so easy. Like a new and upgraded version of yourself will appear as a phoenix rising from the ashes. The truth is, there’s no simple solution that will magically change your life. That is why new year's resolutions are so darn difficult to keep!  But you can take small steps every day to work toward your goals – personally, professionally and financially.

At heyfina we understand that life can be pretty, well, all over the place. We rarely find time to actually sit down and actually look at our progress. However, Christmas and New Year bring the great motivational power of a fresh start. It's a time where we can reflect on our year and use that reflection to look forward and share the path ahead of us. That is why you should use this moment and see how you have done in the last year.

We have put together a curated list of questions to help you reflect on your year. Grab your notebook! It’s time for some reflection, introspection and manifestation with an eye on the future!

Financial Behaviour

First things first. Let’s look back at your financial behaviour of 2021 by answering the following questions:

  1. Have you gained any money insights in 2021?
  2. Which financial decision are you most proud of?
  3. Are there any financial decisions you regret?
  4. Did you end or start any new financial habits?

Financial Feels

Now you have reflected on your financial behaviour let’s look at how some of these behaviors made you feel. Try to dig deep and put it into your own words. Keep asking why until you have clarity on what causes those feelings.

  1. What emotions do you associate with money?
  2. What aspects of your financial life do you avoid?
  3. What would you do if you weren’t afraid of failure?
  4. When you sit down and send out your bills for the month, are you left feeling good or bad after doing this task? Why? Is there anything you can do to change that perspective?
  5. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt powerless about your spending, almost as if something else was in control of it? Why did you feel that way?
  6. When was the last time you bought something that was completely unnecessary? When you look back on it, do you feel happy about that purchase?

Financial Future

Look ahead! What are the things you want to change, learn, or achieve?

  1. What is one change you could make that would positively impact your financial life?
  2. How are you doing on your long term goals?
  3. When is your next financial milestone?
  4. What will happen if you think of your current habits?

To truly improve your financial health, you need to make it a priority and take action.  Having gone through these questions, save them somewhere and look at them again in a few months.
